(10/01/09) Arroyo Grande, California was the winner of the Tidiness criteria award announced on Thursday, October 1, 2009 during the eighth annual America in Bloom (AIB) Symposium and Awards Program at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania.

October 24, 2009 - National Make A Difference Day - Arroyo Grande in Bloom accomplished many projects that made a difference in our city! Brush was removed at Paulding Middle School, there was a cleanup project around City Hall, Ivy was removed at the Fire Station and trees were planted and cleanup performed at the City entry sign near Los Berros and Valley roads. We had nearly 50 volunteers that showed up to help. Many thanks to each and every one of them. To see photos of the event, click here.

October 2009 - Arroyo Grande Wins America in Bloom Award - Hershey, Pennsylvania. Arroyo Grande, California was the winner of the Tidiness criteria award announced on Thursday, October 1 during the eighth annual America in Bloom (AIB) Symposium and Awards Program at the Hershey Lodge in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Arroyo Grande In Bloom co-chair Bob Lund, Mayor Tony Ferrara, Mary Hertel, Mary & Pete Giambalvo traveled to Hershey to receive the award.

July 2009 - A great time was had by all at the 4th of July concert at the Rotary Bandstand in Heritage Park. Arroyo Grande In Bloom was the featured Non-profit organization for the day. Sales of plants, seeds, t-shirts plus a raffle made for a great fundraising event.

April 2009 - Our judges from America in Bloom, Bill Hahn and Diana Weiner have left the city of Arroyo Grande and are on their way to evaluate and judge the next city in the America in Bloom competition.

October 2008 - Arroyo Grande In Bloom Captures National Recognition for City Beautification for the 2nd Straight Year

October 4, 2008 - City Recognized for Outstanding Community Involvement

Columbus, Ohio. America In Bloom, a national beautification program designed to encourage cities across America to take pride in their communities, awarded the City of Arroyo Grande a special recognition plaque for Community Involvement.

Competing against other cities in the same population category, Arroyo Grande finished 2.6% points behind the overall winner, Stuart, Florida. At the ceremony held in Columbus, Ohio, Arroyo Grande received high marks for Historic Preservation and Turf & Groundcover, surpassing Stuart, Florida by 6% points. The South County Historical Society and the Arroyo Grande Tree Guild won the praise of the judges for their contribution to the categories of Historic Preservation and Urban Forestry.

Arroyo Grande came in 2nd to Redwing, Minnesota. We received a special recognition for our "Community Involvement" and we received 3 blooms out of 5!
